The Trinidad and Tobago Coalition of Services Industries in partnership with the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation will launch a project to establish a Network for the Economic Empowerment of Women of the South (NEEWS) in November 2014 during its annual National Services Week.

The project will focus on women entrepreneurs of the global South through different thematic streams such as Science & Technology; Agriculture & Food Security; Energy & Energy Security; Culture and other Services. Knowledge sharing and technology transfer will be mainstreamed through planned incubation

periods with established businesses where women-owned businesses will be tooled or re-tooled to transition them to achieve new levels of success.

The overarching objective of NEEWS is: “To create a network to further opportunities for women’s economic empowerment and to establish a Business Accelerator to underpin the growth of business women on the global South, which will be designed and facilitated by Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business”. This will be done through:

  • Showcasing experiences among successful women entrepreneurs that have contributed to the growth of businesses in order to create tangible investment and business partnerships.
  • Developing a business accelerator programme to grow, sustain and strengthen productive partnerships to deal with issues including financing.
  • Facilitating on-going capacity development to grow and sustain business enterprises of women (Mentorship & Networking).
