Two leading business organisations in the manufacturing and services sectors, have teamed up to conduct a joint survey, which intends to determine the exact impact of the current COVID-19 pandemic on their member businesses.

The Trinidad and Tobago Coalition of Services Industries (TTCSI) and the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers Association (TTMA) intend to carry out the survey over the next 48 hours, the results of which will inform the newly appointed Committee tasked with devising a Recovery Plan for the post-COVID-19 pandemic period.

Members must complete the online questionnaire by Thursday 23 April 2020.

Calls for the participation of the sector businesses were issued in a joint alert issued and signed by the chief executive officers of both lobby groups: Vashti G. Guyadeen, TTCSI CEO; and Dr Mahindra Ramdeen, TTMA CEO.

MESSAGE FROM CEO: JOINT SURVEY

Dear Valued Members,

The Trinidad and Tobago Coalition of Services Industries (TTCSI) and the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers Association (TTMA) is conducting a joint survey assessing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on your business. The purpose of the survey is to assess / determine:

1.   The effects of the pandemic with respect to hours of operations, dismissals, cuts in wages and decreases in sales. These can be used to estimated the overall economic impact on the country and per sector.

2.   Innovative mitigation / coping strategies that are being used by firms. This can be used to make recommendations to other firms or even to policy makers.

3.   The post-pandemic business outlook. This is important to gauge the economic recovery and to develop programs to meet the needs of specific sectors that think they will be hardest hit.

It is our intention to share the Report with relevant Ministries and the recently appointed COVID- 19 Recovery Plan Committee.

The Pan-African Leadership Institute (PALI) has appointed Vashti Guyadeen, CEO of the TT Coalition of Services, as its new ambassador for TT.

In a release on Friday, PALI said this appointment marks a significant milestone in its mission to foster leadership, collaboration and development within the African diaspora and beyond.

The services sector is the largest in the T&T economy, contributing annually on average $43 billion to its Gross Domestic Product, according to the T&T Coalition of Services Industries (TTCSI)

The services sector is diverse, covering business services (professional, computer etc), construction, transport, communications, financial services, tourism/travel, Government operations among others. It employs about 80 per cent of the labour force, some 422,000 people.
