A national diagnostic tool designed to strengthen SME export capability in Trinidad and Tobago
The Trinidad and Tobago Coalition of Services Industries (TTCSI) has officially launched its new Export Readiness Assessment, an innovative online diagnostic designed to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Trinidad and Tobago evaluate their preparedness to enter international markets and compete with greater confidence.
The launch of this new digital tool represents another strategic milestone in TTCSI’s wider mission to strengthen the national export ecosystem, improve SME competitiveness, and support the country’s transition toward a more diversified, services-led and export-oriented economy. As Trinidad and Tobago advances its 50/50 by 2030 vision, the ability of SMEs to successfully export both goods and services will be central to expanding non-energy foreign exchange earnings and creating sustainable economic growth.
Developed specifically for the realities of the local and regional market, the Export Readiness Assessment provides SMEs with a structured and data-driven way to measure their ability to scale beyond domestic borders. The online diagnostic evaluates critical areas that directly influence export success, including market intelligence, pricing strategy, operational capacity, compliance and standards readiness, digital visibility, route-to-market planning, delivery capability, and financial preparedness.
In many cases, SMEs are eager to pursue export opportunities but often lack the frameworks, data points, and strategic guidance required to determine whether they are truly ready for cross-border expansion. TTCSI’s new assessment addresses this gap by converting what is traditionally a lengthy consultancy-style exercise into a simple, intuitive digital experience that can be completed in approximately 8 to 10 minutes.
Upon completion, SMEs receive a comprehensive readiness score out of 100, a clear classification of their current export stage, insight into strengths and critical gaps, and tailored recommendations that help prioritize next steps. The tool also generates a downloadable PDF report, allowing SME owners, management teams, and support institutions to use the results as a working roadmap for export development.
More importantly, the launch of the assessment introduces a practical decision-making framework for SMEs that are serious about moving from ambition to execution. Rather than relying on assumptions, SMEs can now make evidence-based decisions around market validation, product and service positioning, export compliance, international pricing, and go-to-market strategy.
The diagnostic has been intentionally built to serve SMEs in services, goods, and hybrid business models, reflecting the increasingly integrated nature of modern trade. For service exporters in particular, the assessment helps firms better understand their readiness to package expertise, intellectual capital, and digital capabilities for regional and global markets.
This launch also strengthens TTCSI’s long-term strategy of building a digital SME Support Hub and export pipeline ecosystem, where assessment data can be used to guide training, matchmaking, market development interventions, trade mission targeting, and policy advocacy. Over time, the anonymized insights generated by the platform can also provide TTCSI with valuable intelligence on the common readiness gaps affecting SMEs, allowing the organization to design more responsive programs and support tools.
The Export Readiness Assessment is therefore more than a standalone tool. It is a foundational component of TTCSI’s broader vision to create a smarter, more data-driven pathway for SME growth, export diversification, and national competitiveness.
With this launch, TTCSI is reaffirming its commitment to ensuring that SMEs are not only encouraged to think globally, but are also equipped with the practical diagnostics, tools, and strategic support required to succeed internationally.
For Trinidad and Tobago’s SMEs, this marks the beginning of a clearer export journey, grounded in data, strategy, and action.
